Women's Fall Fashion & Styles
After pouring over the new styles and collections for Fall I thought I'd share what I've learned with you.
First of all, the must-have cocktail dress for Fall is a sexy red number in chiffon and tulle. Of course the classic jet black is always okay preferably in a flowing chiffon. Shop Bluefly! for a great selection of designer dresses.
Cropped jackets are also very big so look for the styles that look good on you.
You'll need knits...lots and lots of knits. Layered knits is the sophisticated look you're after and you can easily achieve this without looking bulky by choosing lightweight, ultrafine cashmeres. Visit the Cashmere Category for some unbelievable cashmere sales.
Slender V-neck sweaters in navy & grey horizontal stripes or charcoal and black should be added to your wardrobe before long, too. Think partly collegiate and partly hip to showcase that style you are known and admired for.
For the next couple of months be on the lookout for brass studded caps, jackets, boots, pants and suits...especially if they come with chain detailing.
You'll also want gold trimmed, plush slippers or ballet flats for your Fall wardrobe. It's so hard to go wrong with ballet slippers and soon you'll see them in leather, animal prints, velvet and gold metallic. Covered platforms and booties are also quite big.
Here's another tip....fur...buy fur scarves and jackets with fur sleeves....fur is definitely in. Add tie-neck blouses and pencil skirts to your shopping list as they adorned almost all the Fall collectionsl! For plenty of fur look to Madison Avenue Mall.
Leggings have made a big comeback and can be worn as skinny pants with layered knit tops, a big sweater, or with more tailored clothing such as a mini skirt. For really hot Fall styles
Now for what's out. Chandelier earrings, numerous layered necklaces, wedges and sunglasses with jewels....out....lose them!
Instead opt for chunky gold jewelry, big plastic sunglasses and white beads (a la the 60's). Petite little heart necklaces with that classic slender V-neck knit top is a very good look, too.
One of the coolest accessories this season is the new ultraglossy monogram vinyl bag (in silver or gold) Marc Jacobs designed for Louis Vuitton. They are so gorgeous. Luckily you can also pick up the slightly less expensive envelope version!
Check out the new Derek Lam bags with baroque detailing and the sweet bags Rachel Zoe designed for Judith Leiber. Very exotic.
Prada has a new Fall schoolgirl accessories line which includes leather-bound composition books in the traditional marble pattern or the new, hip floral pattern. This collection also sports portfolios and briefcases. WOW.
For accessories think baroque, or gold crest-emblazoned, styles as these will be prominent this Fall.
To express your unique personal style in a sophisticated way remember simple modern cuts and tailored basics and you'll be on the right path.
Jewelry reached beyond the realm of women long ago, but “gangsta” rappers aren't the only ones who like “bling.” Increasingly, men's jewelry is becoming an important fashion statement for men of all ages and walks of life.
Watches and rings remain the most popular items, but now more men are sporting bracelets, chains and earrings. However, they opt for different materials and styles than women choose, and they wear it differently. Silver and gold are timeless classics, but trendy materials for men's jewelry include stainless steel, platinum, tungsten and titanium. Tungsten is similar to platinum, but is extremely durable and scratch-resistant. Titanium is an extremely hard, durable metal that retains a nice finish through rough wear.
A watch is “the” single most important accessory a man owns. However, these days, with cell phones and Blackberrys providing the time, a simple bracelet provides a stylish alternative for a little arm candy. Men's bracelets typically fit firmly around the wrist in order to stay put while working: no bangle bracelets for the masculine gender! Often of metal, other options include woven, leather or beaded bracelets for a more casual, younger, outdoorsy or “surfer” look.
Necklaces are ever more prevalent on men. Metallic chains should be a medium diameter and worn tucked inside the shirt for a classy, powerful image. For a more casual look, beaded or string necklaces can be paired with T-shirts or collared long-sleeve shirts. They should be simple but bold, in neutral colors.
Following the same rule of thumb, rings - which can be worn on the thumb or any other finger - should be simple and understated, whether they're simple metal bands or feature gemstones.
More than jewelry, men love convenience. Online jewelry stores offer an expedient shopping method from the comfort of home. Typically, the selection of products is bigger than any one brick-and-mortar store can offer, without the traffic, parking, crowds or pushy salespeople. Online jewelry stores also let you comparison shop with ease - whether you're comparing quality, selection, shipping or cost. One of the biggest advantages to buying online is the cheaper prices that enable you to buy a better piece of jewelry within your budget - another favorite with guys. Because these stores don't have the overhead a brick-and-mortar store has, they're often able to sell below retail.
For an even bigger bargain, look for wholesale jewelry. Jewelry carries one of the highest mark-ups of any product. If you're savvy, you might be able to find the piece you want at or near wholesale prices. Check the phone book for wholesale dealers and local wholesale markets; sometimes they offer special hours or sales for the general public. You might not get a “true” wholesale price, but more than likely the items will be discounted well below retail prices. Manufacturer sample sales are often advertised in the local media.
Discount wholesale warehouse membership clubs sometimes stock fine jewelry. Another option is to search the Internet for groups that buy through wholesalers. They may let you join or extend their discount for specific purchases. If you buy frequently or in bulk, you may qualify for a reseller's license or business license. Most wholesalers will sell to licensed buyers with a minimum order.
No matter where you buy men's jewelry be a smart shopper. Check the reputation of the seller, the guarantee offered and the quality of the item. The four factors for judging a diamond's quality are color, clarity, carat and cut. Gemstones use the same criteria, with an additional aspect to consider: perception. Price often depends on the gem's color and rarity.
