Buying Guide for Men's Suits

The first thing to consider is the fabric and we'll make it easy for you......WOOL, you want a 100% wool suit.  To be more specific you want a worsted wool suit and they are available in lighter or heavier weaves.  They're durable, wear very well and are perfectly fine year round.

Next you will do best to choose a 2 or 3 button single breasted jacket.  Double breasted suits are fine, but for your first suit you should stick to a single breasted variety which simply means it buttons in the front instead of folding over itself to button.  If you choose a 3 button jacket leave the third button undone.  Choose a navy or dark blue suit to begin with, later you can experiment with pin stripes and other colors.

It you're thin choose pants with a flat front.  If you've missed a couple of days at the gym go for the pleated look.  Pleats are actually fine either way but best on a fuller mid-section. 

The cuffs at the bottom of slacks help them hang better because it adds a little weight at the bottom.  Cuffs look best on a taller man and should be avoided on shorter men. 

Last, but not least, you will need a belt and it must match your shoes.  Leather is preferred for both these accessories.  It's hard to go wrong with black so it's a good first choice.  See Men's Shoes for more help. Your socks will need to match your suit and they must be dress socks.  No thick tube socks!
